Up Close and Personal: Faber-Castell

“I’m ready for my closeup.”  When I look at this rose, I think about this line from an old movie called Sunset Boulevard.

This was my second time using Faber-Castell’s Graphite Aquarelle pencils.  I applied the water using Derwent waterbrushes.  They make a great team.  What I’ve been doing recently is buying roses (and other flowers), periodically, from a flower shop, taking pictures of them from every angle, and in this case, zooming in to fill or almost fill the entire photo.  Before I drew this rose, I had never drawn a closeup of a rose or anything else, for that matter.  It was a great learning experience because I became aware of minute details that I would have otherwise overlooked.  Then again, drawing is always a learning experience for me:-)
