Not So Minor Details: the Prismacolor experience

I wanted to quit this so many times!  This was meant to be a brief hiatus from colored graphite!  I should have known that trying to recreate all of the details from these two roses would be anything but brief!  I’m very glad that I’ve finished them, though.  I used Prismacolor’s Water Soluble Graphite pencils for this drawing.  There are three shades: light, medium, and dark.  I employed all of them.  I have used these pencils a few times before, but never with water.  I was planning to use water with this drawing, but after I started drawing the shadows on the petals, I decided against it.  I decided that I did not want to risk disturbing and distorting those carefully placed shadows, so I did not use water and left it dry.  There’s nothing wrong with that, right?  Perhaps next time, I can draw the petals first, then apply water to them, let them dry and then add the shadows.  Something to think about.
